House, later shop, with offices above. C17, altered C19.
Timber-framed, colourwashed plaster and stucco, old tiled roof
with gables facing High Street and West Street (No.96A
accessible from West Street). Tall red brick chimney at right
with yellow brick stack behind.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and attics. 3 bay structure, part of
encroachment on west market place. 2 first floor C19 flush-set
sash windows with divided glazing, early C20 casement window
to attic. Ground floor has C19 shopfront with timber pilasters
at side and framing central entrance. Timber stallrisers, with
arcaded windows above, timber fascia, with moulded cornice.
Rear elevation facing West Street numbered 96A, stucco faced
with masonry lining. 2 storeys, with 2 mullion and transom
windows, ground and first floor, slightly recessed on ground
floor, and recessed door, with heavy timber surround, and
raised door hood with moulded fascia, console brackets, and
moulded broken cornice, with small dentil frieze. Attic
corbelled out on timber console brackets, with timber
bressumer exposed, below stucco faced gable, with one central
C19 mullion and transom window with opening casements. Lowered
C17 narrow red brick chimneystack at left with 2 terracotta
pots.
