House. Late C16 with additions of late C19 and 1960s. Timber-
framed, rendered, with plain tile roofs, red brick stacks. C16
4-bay cross range with lean-to and gabled extension to left. Two
parallel, shorter ranges attached to right. The centre range may
incorporate fabric of an earlier hall range. The end range to
right is c1880. The 1960's wing runs back from C16 range. Garden
front: triple gabled facade of 3 bays bearing date 1619 in centre
gable. Half-glazed door to left of centre range. 3, 4 and 5-light
leaded casements under labels. Ridge stacks to left and centre
ranges. Large end stack of c1960 to right range. Similar
fenestration to other sides. Interior: 4-bay cross wing with, to
garden side, 2-bay parlour with great chamber above. The mid-rail
steps up to accommodate higher ceiling level in parlour. Close
studded frame with jowled posts. External trenched down braces
to end bays 1st floor (Suffolk bracing). Edge-halved and bridled
scarfs. Original wattle and daub with riven oak "wattles" and
sections of original render on left flank inside lean-to roof
space. Evidence for one 4-light diamond mullion window in same
wall, 2nd bay from rear. Simple crown post roof with unmoulded
square posts and longitudinal braces. Parlour has chamfered cross
beams with step stops and chamfered plates. Chamfered seam and
flat section joists to rear bay. Large stack.
