16/120 The Mount
GV II
Farmhouse, now house, c1680. Squared, coursed ironstone. Steeply pitched red
tile roof, with renewed rafters. Stone-coped gable. Stone/brick ridge and end
stacks. 3-unit through-passage plan plus one-unit service wing. 2 storeys plus
attic and single storey plus attic, 4-window range altogether, 2 entrances. Main
part has entrance off-centre to right reached via 4 stone steps. Doorway has
cambered stone head, plank door and hood mould with lozenge shaped label stops.
Entrance is flanked by 2- and 3-light stone mullioned windows with hood moulds
and label stops. A 3-light casement window to far left. Lead cames, wood lintel
and wrought-iron casement fasteners. First floor has three 3-light wood
mullioned and transomed windows with small opening casements, lead cames and
wrought-iron casement fasteners. Stone-coped gables. 3 gabled roof dormers. Two
2-light stone mullioned cellar windows. Lower right part. Squared coursed
ironstone. Slate roof. Stone end stack. Roof raised from single storey to single
storey plus attic in C18. 1-window range. Doorway has cambered, chamfered stone
head with hood mould and label stops. 3-light casement to left with hood mould
and label stops, 3-light wood casement to attic. Interior noted as having plan
comprising hall, parlour and kitchen, moulded spine beams. 2 winder staircases,
inglenook fire places. 2 bread ovens and bredroms with corner fireplaces. A
notable example of the 3-unit 'upland' plan type.
