C18 or early C19. Former rope works. Hammer dressed stone. 2 ranges, one
of 4 storeys, and with 5 ranges of 3-light casements with glazing bars; the
other of 3 storeys, with 3 ranges of 2-light segment-headed casements. Doorways
in centre of each range with winch hoists above. Range of stables and outhouses
to south-east: red brick. Together with the gatehouse, Wykes Court (North
Street) and the range of buildings to the south of Wykes Court garden, they
form an unusual industrial complex of which Wykes Court was presumably the
managers house.

Rax, Garden wall to Rax, The Grove, Garden wall to the Grove, No 32 and its outhouses,
Gatehouse of No 32 and its wall, Outhouses to the south of Wykes Court Garden (all on
north side), Nos 13, 15, 19 and 31 (on south side), Nos 17 and 19 Downes Street,
Wykes Court, Conservative Club and Stables south of Conservative Club, North Street,
all form a group.
