Farmhouse, now house. C15 origin, early C17 rear wing, later C17 addition to
right, later C19 and C20 additions and alterations. Limestone rubble, pantiled
roofs, brick stacks. Originally open-hall house, 2 bays remaining, formerly
extended further to left, wing to rear and right forming L-plan. West front of
2 storeys, two 2-light C19 casements with timber lintels at ground floor, to left
formerly door, gable end of 2nd addition to right has 2-light casement at ground
and first floor and buttress to left. Left return has gable end of hall to
right, straight joint to rear wing to left, gable end of rear wing projecting
above roof-level of hall; gable end of hall has central stack, with 2-light
casement to each side at ground floor, formerly were 2 doors to right, stack
probably re-positioned and wall partially re-built; line in gable showing roof
raised; at first floor, 2-light casement also with re-built stonework below,
formerly door to 2nd room at first floor after open hall was floored in. 2-storey
rear wing to left has two 2-light casements at ground floor with timber lintel and
French window, 2 similar windows at first floor and small blocked window under
eaves to right. Right return of wing to right has C20 door with buttress to each
side small 4-pane casement to right and 2-light casement, 2 blocked windows at
first floor under eaves; to rear, 2-light basement at ground and first floor.
In angle of L-plan, a 2-storey flat-roofed C19 addition, to right return has
2 ground floor and 3 first floor 2-light casements, 2-light casement and door to
rear, and similar first floor window. Inner side of rear wing has small 2-light
casement with timber lintel at ground and first floor; to rear, a similar
casement at ground floor, formerly door, blocked window at first floor right and
small attic light. Interior: ground floor room of former hall has framed
ceiling in 4-sections with heavy deep-chamfered beams, inserted stack to right;
at first floor 2 bays of roof visible, one double collar with arched-braces, all
chamfered, one row of purlins, one pair of windbraces to rear slope, 2 pairs to
front, half curtailed where hall formerly extended further, one purlin with
carpenter's mark, III. First floor room of addition to front right has ceiling
higher than that of hall roof. Rear wing has 2 rooms, ground floor centre room
has deep-chamfered beams with step and scroll stops, fireplace with cambered
lintel, room to rear has one stopped beam, others boxed; at first floor, centre
room has bar and scroll stopped beams, chamfered, room to rear has similar beams,
beam along dividing wall supported on corbel, fireplace to rear with fine plaster
overmantel, with 3 round-headed panels, central shield with 3 chevrons, winged
cherub to each side. Addition to front right has at ground floor chamfered beams
with step and run-out stops, fireplace with cambered lintel, formerly had pigeon
holes in original external wall of hall, one remaining.
