House. C16, with early C18 addition, mid C19 alterations.
Squared limestone rubble, possibly re-used from Kirkstead Abbey,
red brick in English bond, single large ridge and gable brick
stacks, old plain tiled roof with brick coped gables. L-plan,
lobby entry. The range at right angles on the left is an early
C18 parlour block addition. 2 storey, 2 bay front having central
half glazed door with wooden pilastered surround and carved
brackets supporting narrow lead hood. To left are 2 and to right
single glazing bar sashes. To first floor 2 similar windows. In
the side front of the parlour block are 2 glazing bar sashes to
each floor. The side front is in small red bricks in English
bond, with plinth having greenstone top. Side door is c.1840,,
half glazed in panelled reveals with pilastered door surround,
scrolled brackets support a leaded hood, to right a semi-circular
headed bordered light. To first floor a glazing bar sash. To
the gable a 2 light casement and above is a reset piece of
medieval carving. Interior. Front block has early C18 moulded
plaster cornice. Early C19 stair with slender turned balusters
and carved string. Chamfered and stopped beams and fireplace
bressummer. Early C18 internal doors. Oak pegged C16 butt
purlin roof with chamfered and stopped principals. Mr. Daniel
Disney, married to Catherine Fiennes of Clinton family, Earls of
Lincoln lived here c.1680. Dr. John Taylor lived here in 1715-
1733 and published "The Common Rights of Christians".
