MANTON,
ST. MARY'S ROAD (North Side),
No. 20 (The Old Cottage)

(Formerly listed as No. 6 'The Old Cottage')

GV II

House, probably formerly 2 dwellings. Early C17, but with date beneath the stack, of 1733, probably referring to alterations. Coursed rubble with Welsh slate roof. 2 storeys, 4 bays (i.e. 2 former 2 unit dwellings). Inner two bays have 3-light ovolo moulded mullioned windows with hoodmoulds and to either side, a door with timber lintel chamfered with ornate stop. Scratch dial on one quoin. Outer bays also have 3 light stone mullioned windows, and there are similar windows above. Not all windows are original to this house however. Coped gables, axial and gable end stacks. Interior has 2 inglenooks in the right hand 2 bays, and C18 stone fireplace in an inner room, not in situ. There is a series of fine panelled oak doors which apparently belong with the house.
