Road bridge, now footbridge, over New Main Line of Birmingham Canal. 1829
by Telford. Cast iron. Brick abutments have some sandstone dressings.
Single segmental arch of 150 foot span carries road across Smethwick cutting.
Arch formed by girders pierced in lattice pattern, with lattice bracing in
spandrels. "Horsley Iron Works 1829" is said to be cast in four places.
"Galton Bridge" is cast above the centre on each side. Cast iron railings
terminate at stone piers with Gothic blind tracery. Named after Samuel
Tertius Galton, one of the BCN committee.
