Former inn, now betting shop. Late C17, altered in C19 and C20. Brick, rendered to principal.
elevations, hipped tiled roof with end stacks. Seven bay principal facade at right-angles to street
facing St Alphege's churchyard, two-bay street -elevation. Three storeys. Deep and dentiled eaves
cornice, bands between each storey, that to second floor broken by central staircase window on
main elevation; this flanked by regular composition of one short and two broad openings to either
side placed symmetrically but now mostly blocked. Street elevation with C19 sash windows in
architrave surrounds. Ground floor altered by C19 public house facade to side and C20 shop front
to street of no interest.
A remarkable survival of a grand, late-C17 composition with prominent group value.
