Farmhouse. Late C17 or early C18 with probably mid-to late C18 and C19 additions.
Dressed sandstone (almost of ashlar quality) to ground floor with rendered cob to
first floor; also rendered to sides and rear. Rendered coursed stone rubble
additions to rear. Gable-ended slate roofs with C20 bitumen covering. Rendered
stacks, with tops rebuilt in C19 red brick.
Plan and development: Two-room central-entrance plan range, facing south. External
end stacks. Central entrance hall with porch to front and staircase in continuous
integral outshut to rear. Two gabled wings to rear, probably C18 additions, one with
brick ridge stack. Two storeys.
Exterior: Five-bay front; first-floor leaded wooden cross windows of c.1700 with
stanchions and saddle bars; one opening metal casement to each window, all but one
with larger leaded panes (larger-paned lights possibly later alterations). Ground-
floor C20 plate-glass windows in old openings, with dressed-stone flat-arched heads.
Central C19 nine-panelled door (top 3 panels glazed) with chamfered panels and
chamfered frame. Probably c.1700 gabled dressed-stone porch with hollow-chamfered
plinth and flat-arched entrance with shaped jambs; inside of porch has side benches
within short flight of stone steps up to entrance. Rear: Outshut with C17 three-
light leaded mullioned wooden casement lighting half-landing of staircase, the centre
light an opening metal casement. C19 half-glazed door to right with 3 beaded-flush
lower panels and 3-part rectangular overlight. Left-hand rear wing with first-floor
C20 casement in gable end; the inner front with ground-floor C19 two-light wooden
casement to right, boarded 2-light wooden casement to left and central boarded door;
all openings with wooden lintels. The inner front of the right-hand wing has ground-
floor 2-light wooden casement to left with brick jambs and boarded door to right,
both with wooden lintels. Right-hand rear wing with first-floor C19 three-light
wooden casement and 2 ground-floor 2-light wooden casements with wooden lintels. C19
one-storey lean-to additions to left-hand (west) end, altered in the C20.
Interior: Cross beam (formerly cased) in left-hand ground-floor room (kitchen).
Dog-leg stair in outshut at rear of entrance hall, with stick balusters and chamfered
square newel post. First-floor rooms not inspected.
