Barn. C16 or--earlier. Long 9-bay timberframed aisled-barn,
weatherboarded with steep pitched roof. Half-hipped roof with
tiles replaced by dark metal sheeting c.1945. Projecting gabled
porches on E side in 3rd bay from each end. Modern double doors
in N end and in W wall of aisle next to SW corner. Heavy square
arcade posts on raised brick bases. Posts inclined inwards and
thickening gradually to jowled head. Curved braces to tie beams
and arcade plate. aisle tie-beams dovetail notched onto arcade
posts. Nave spanned by clasped purlin queen-post trusses with 1
purlin in each slope, curved wind braces and flat laid rafters.
A late medieval barn of great interest for its aisled
construction and large size. (VCH III (1912) 374).
