Description

PADSTOW PRIDEAUX PLACE, Padstow
SW 9075-9175
8/134 South terrace with grotto niche to
south of Prideaux Place

GV II*

South terrace with grotto niche. The south terrace was probably laid out by Edmund
Prideaux in circa 1740 when he erected the garden seat to the south (qv garden
feature at south end of south terrace, Prideaux Place). The terrace was then
probably rebuilt in the early C19 with a crenellated section roughly in the centre.
Snecked slate stone rubble retaining walls with round dressed slate stone arch to
grotto niche.
The south terrace forms a path from the south side of the house to a garden feature
at the south end. Roughly in the centre of the terrace is a crenellated section on
the east side with a grotto niche below. The niche has a round arch and has large
scattered rocks before it to the east.
Kelly, Francis. HBMC report. 'Prideaux Place, Padstow, Cornwall.
