GV II
Almshouses and wall to front on west. 1870 (datestone). Brick laid in English
bond. Rag slate roof with gable ends and clay ridge tiles. Brick end and axial
stacks.
Plan: Courtyard plan; 2 rows of four 1-room plan houses on north and south sides
with office on east side and brick wall with entrance on west, enclosing the fourth
side of a rectangular court.
Exterior: 2 storeys. East elevation comprises the gable ends of the north and south
ranges flanking a brick wall with entrance through to the court. The wall is
stepped, rising in the centre and has a dressed stone arch with trefoil head. The
north and south ranges are each of 2 storeys with 2 pointed dressed stone arches to
the windows on the ground floor and two 4-centred arched window openings above.
Barge boards to the deep projecting verges. Datestone on right hand gable end with
inscription in memory of John Tredwin.
Within the courtyard, the 2 rows of houses comprise regular 4-window front elevations
with gables to front.
Plank doors on ground floor and 2-light casements above. Office at far east end is
lower with a gable end to front, a pointed arched opening to the porch with a 2-light
casement above.
Interior: not inspected.
Especially unspoilt group.
