House. C16 N range, later C16 S range at right angles possibly a
separate building in origin, reconstructed and extended to W to
link with N range in C17. Alterations in early C18 and C19. L-
shaped farmhouse of 2 storeys, attic and cellar, facing S.
Timber frame plastered with modern panelled pargetting on S and
W, and roughcast elsewhere. Steep old red tile gabled roofs with
bellcast to eaves of front range. S range has 3-unit plan with
large curved braces to cambered tie beam of central truss and
heavy swept jowls to posts. Extended 1 bay to W in C17, possibly
to provide a parlour, for a separate household in the N range,
with external gable chimney on W. Present 2 central internal
chimneys are C18 with C19 shafts above roof. Single and 2
storeys small red brick C19 link in angle between wings. 4
window S front with 2 square C19 bay windows and projecting porch
linked under a hipped tiled roof. Modern wooden small paned
casement windows have replaced sashes since 1967. 2 small gabled
dormers with bargeboards and 2-light wooden casements. Surviving
early C18 sash window on Ground floor W gable with 6/6 panes and
wide ovolo-moulded glazing bars. On 1st floor over, an early C19
cast iron lattice casement. N range has angular jowls to posts
and C16 deep hollow and roll moulded beam over lateral W
fireplace in kitchen. In roof space of front range, a close-
studded partition and a clasped purlin roof re-using rafters with
lap joints for collars. Axial beam in N range has pyramid
chamfer stops. Ogee stops to C17 axial chamfered beams of floor
and ceilings in S range. 2 2-panel early C18 doors with HL
hinges in kitchen. Originally the lodge to the Old Park of
Hadham Hall to W. Became 1 of 3 farmhouses when park broken up
c.1686 (Minet (1914) 58). Still named Old Park Lodge Farm in
1900.
