Mansion. 1800 in classical Palladian style. Hipped slate roof. Ashlar
Bath stone facing to brick. Rectangular plan with service wing linking to
Stable Block (q.v.) to N.E. Full entablature and balustraded parapet. East
elevation: 7 bays, 2,3,2, with slight central emphasis, Porte Cochere replaced
by C20 door surround with Ionic variant pilasters and pediment. 3 bay service
wing to North with occasional vitrified bricks, arched recesses stone band
at impost level and rubbed brick voussoirs, glazing bar sashes throughout.
South Elevation: 5 bays, one, 3,one full height corinthian tetrastyle portico
with pediment and modillion cornices, approached by 8 steps. Side wings
on ground floor have arched recesses with balustraded aprons. Plinth with
moulded string at ground floor cill level. Interior: high quality features
in Queen Anne and Adam style. V.C.H vol.iv, p.184. B.O.E (Berkshire) p:115.
