Farmhouse. Probably C17, divided into 3 cottages in C19 and now one house
again. Local limestone rubble. Asbestos slate roof, gabled at higher left
end, and hipped at lower right end. Stone rubble chimney stacks, axial
stack with dropstones rendered stack at left gable end with set off, and an
internal rear lateral stack with rendered shaft with tapered cap and
heightened.
Plan: 3 room and through passage plan, lower end to right. Rear doorway of
passage blocked and stairs inserted into passage creating small room behind
the stairs with access from the hall. Hall has rear lateral stack. Lower
room was possibly originally unheated, but now has axial stack at its
higher end backing onto the passage which is an unusual feature. The inner
room to left has a gable end stack.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Long asymmetrical 5 window range. First floor small
C19 2-light casements with glazing bars, the right hand a 3-light casement,
the left replaced in C20. Ground floor all C20 and 3-light casements.
Some of the windows have C20 brick jambs and concrete lintels. Passage
doorway to right to centre with C19 plank door and bead-moulded door-frame
and wide open-fronted porch with stone rubble side walls with integral
seats inside and asbestos slate lean-to roof.
Various small C19 and C20 casements at rear disposed towards the right
higher end.
lean-to outshut on higher left end with hipped scantle slate roof which is
carried down at front over an outshut with doorways.
Interior: lower room has fireplace with chamfered timber lintel the stops
concealed, and with stone rubble jambs. Blocked hall fireplace with timber
lintel inserted HAF, 14, 1707. Solid stone partition between hall and
inner room, at ground storey level only. The inner room is divided into
two rooms.
Roof: straight principals with bolted collars over hall and nailed over
higher end. The lower end has one principal dovetail halved for dollar and
morticed for threaded or butt purlins.
