TA 1028 NW KINGSTON UPON HULL HIGH STREET
(West side)
680-1/23/1994
No.153

GV II

House, now disused workshop. Late C16, remodelled late C18, with mid C19 and C20 alterations. Timber-framed with painted brick and rendered rear wing with corrugated asbestos roof. Plinth, wooden gutter, single coped gable. 3 storeys; 3x4 windows. 3 segment-headed glazing bar windows and above, 3 smaller flat-headed 2-light casements. Below, to left, a flat-headed cart entry, and to right, 5 narrow barred windows. Rear wing has four C19 round-headed glazing bar windows to right. Over the entry, a similar window.
INTERIOR has fragments of original timber-framing including first floor posts and ceiling beams including the jetty plate. On the upper floor sawn-off joists are visible and some stud partitions. Fragments of framing are visible on the first floor and these may indicate that more of the original framing survives buried in the walls at this level.
Formerly known as Dunwell's Forge.
