5/11 Barn with attached horse-engine
- house circa 20 metres south-east
of Great Halfsbury Farmhouse
GV II
Barn with attached horse-engine house. Probably early C19. Unrendered cob on stone
rubble footings. Right gable end rebuilt in brick, left gable end in concrete
block. Slate roof with gable ends. Polygonal slate roof to horse-engine house.
Extremely unusual plan, the front and rear walls following the curve of a quarter-
round with twin opposing cart entrances. Horse-engine house projects to the left of
the rear right-hand entrance.
The twin opposing cart entrances retain double plank doors except front left-hand
entrance. Each entrance has a porch formed by rounded cob projections supporting a
slate pent roof, which at the front is continuous over and between the twin
entrances in the curve. The horse-engine house is open-sided, the polygonal slate
roof supported on timber posts.
Horizontal winding beam in situ.
