Barn range at Lower House

GV II

Barn. Dated on a gable, 1759, though built in several phases.
Largely brick with one timber framed gable and plain tiled
roof. 2 ranges at right angles to each other and at different
levels, enclosing a courtyard to the SW. Earliest range runs
NE-SW and has three inserted double doors in its SE elevation
and an external staircase to loft. SW gable is timber framed
with brick infill, possibly the remains of an earlier
building. King post roof construction, and square panels with
arched bracing above slightly cambered middle rail. Lower
range at right angles is later C18 with some early C19
modifications. 2 wide entries to cart shed with brick
relieving arches over timber lintels, and round arched doorway
to store.
