Description

TOTLAND

SZ38NW SUMMERS LANE
1354-0/4/343 Windmill Cottage

II

Originally 1 cottage, later 2 cottages and now in one
ownership. Early C18 extended to left c.1760. Built of stone
rubble with ashlar quoins. Stone gable ends with kneelers.
Roof originally thatched but now covered in modern tiles with
renewed brick stack. 3 renewed casements with triangular
patterned glazing, perhaps reproducing a design on the older
windows. Modern penticed doorcase. Interior has wooden 2
panelled door with L hinge. Brick cambered fireplace with arch
remaining to former bread oven. Stone flagged floor. Lounge
has beam with slight chamfer. An internal stone mullioned
window to 1st floor shows that the cottage was extended.
