Farmhouse, now house. C18 house of 2 bays, extended to the
right by one bay in the early C19 and with later C19 N.W.
wing. Earlier part of house of stone rubble. Mainly pegtiled
roof with square brick chimney-stack. 2 storeys 3 windows.
Gable ends with kneelers. 1 gabled dormer and'3 casement
windows. 2 white brick gabled porches. N.W. wing is of
ironstone with slate roof and 1 2 storey canted bay. Shate was
one of the original Domesday Manors which later became a
grange of the Abbey of Quarr until the Disolution of the
Monasteries.
