Walls and railings around churchyard of St Andrew, with lych
gates at N and SE, gates at S, and medieval grave covers at S.
Wall of mixed construction incorporating medieval fabric and
C17 brick coping. N part rebuilt and railings added late C19.
N lych gate c1893 to W G Selwyn, priest; SE lych gate c1888 to
H J Trotter. Rubble wall, with lych gates, N with synthetic
tile roof, S with stone slate roof. Ashlar gate piers. Cast-
and wrought-iron railings. Plan a long triangle with rounded S
end, where wall is retaining wall. N section has spear-headed
railings, many damaged. Lych gate at N of very high quality
with substantial pegged construction, and long inscriptions
carved in beams; similar gate at SE. S gate piers square,
ashlar, with low pyramidal coping. Wall is of rubble
construction and ramped up to gate piers. On ramped section,
medieval coped grave covers have been set as coping flanking
piers. Medieval relieving arch to left of gate, half-way up
wall below ground level of churchyard.
