Terrace of four houses, c1850. Red brick with stone and stucco
dressings; concrete tile roof; brick stacks. Double-depth
plan. 3 storeys and basement; 8-window range. Symmetrical
composition with slightly projecting quoined bays in a rhythm
of A:B:A:BB:A:B:A. Stucco basement; ground-floor frieze and
cornice; first-floor plinth and top frieze, cornice and
blocking course. Bays 1, 3, 6 and 8 break forward with quoins.
Basement has segmental-headed windows with tripartite sashes;
ground-floor windows have tripartite sashes with consoles to
mullions set in plain architraves with bracketed cills;
corniced first-floor 4-pane sashes have moulded, keyed, lugged
and eared architraves; paired round-arched lights with
architraves and keystones to second floor. Bays 2, 4, 5 and 7
have entrances recessed behind opening with antae; paired
doors with overlights; first floor has architraved window with
frieze, cornice and sash; second floor has round-headed light
with architrave and keystone. Low parapet, some ornate
railings surviving, to front of basement area. Rear has
projecting bays on arches with basement, set back with
small-paned casements and entrances; they were used as
separate dwellings; some 12-pane sashes to first and second
floors.
INTERIOR retains some details such as cornices, shutters and
some staircase balustrading. A good example of a mid C19
terrace; the basement dwellings are an unusual feature.
