GV II

Terraced houses. 1836-43. Built by T.Pearson. Yellow brick set
in Flemish bond, stucco, roofs of tiles and Welsh and
artificial slate, so far as visible. Three storeys over
basement, some houses with dormers in attic; two windows each.
Nos 1-3, 11-13 and 21-23 set slightly forward. Basement and
ground floor stuccoed, ground floor decorated with banded
rustication. Segmental-arched entrance with pilasters,
fanlight with decorative glazing and panelled door of original
design; all windows flat-arched, those to first and second
floors with heads of gauged brick, those to the first floor
being of piano nobile proportions with individual cast-iron
balconies; sashes of original design throughout; cornice and
blocking course; stacks to party walls.
Features of individual houses are: no 1 has side entrance in
Barnsbury Street with stuccoed architrave of Doric pilasters
and entablature, and fluted quarter-columns to doorcase; gable
end treated as pediment, with one flat-arched window in it;
nos 3, 5 and 7 have flat-arched dormers in attic; no 11 lacks
cornice, has been extensively rebuilt and has a dormer in
roof; nos 13-15 have brickwork of upper floors painted and
lack cornices; no 21 has a flat-arched dormer; no 23 has a
two-storey entrance bay to right-hand return, with
segmental-arched entrance having moulded architrave,
pilasters, fanlight and panelled door of original design,
flanked by two pointed-arched windows with moulded
architraves, the first floor probably added with stucco
cornice and blocking course; staircase wing with additional
entrance added to rear.
