Attached house. c1780. Render with limestone dressings, party
wall stacks, roof not visible. Double-depth plan. Mid Georgian
style.
3 storeys, attic and basement; 3-window range. A symmetrical
front has pilaster strips to a moulded cornice and parapet;
semicircular-arched doorway has attached Doric columns,
entablature blocks with triglyphs, open modillion pediment,
blocked fanlight and 6-panel door, the upper 4 raised with
cut-out corners. 8/8-pane sashes, 4/8-panes on the second
floor, with a central semicircular-arched 4/8-pane stair
window, with timber-lined reveals. Rear elevation has a
left-hand full-height canted bay.
INTERIOR: full-height central stairwell to the front, with an
open dogleg stair with stick balusters, column newels, ramped
and wreathed rail, and curved brackets, divided from the
central hall by an elliptical arch; reeded architraves with
corner roundels to 6-panel doors, reeded marble fire surrounds
with corner roundels, panelled shutters and cornices with vine
leaves; elliptical-arched recesses to principal rooms.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: attached wrought-iron spear-headed front
area gates and railings with urn finials and capped corner
piers, and left-hand steps down to basement entrance.
Part of a terrace with Nos 16-19 (qv), connected by a
continuous cornice.
