House. Dated 1855.
MATERIALS: Rough limestone ashlar with Ham Hill stone
rusticated quoins, architraves and doorcase, hipped slate roof
with stone stacks flanking central range.
PLAN: double-depth central-staircase plan.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; symmetrical 3-window range. All windows
to the front and first-floor returns are 6/6-pane sashes set
in moulded architraves. The shallow roof has wide bracketed
eaves, and the pediment to the stepped-forward central
entrance bay is bracketed; the doorcase has a cornice on
consoles.
INTERIOR: large open well, open string staircase with a
wreathed oak handrail and curtail step has a skylight above
with frosted patterned glass. The library, to the right, was
oak panelled in 1925. The sitting room to the left has high
skirting boards and an ornate cornice; a wide canted bay to
the rear has shutters, now fixed back. The first-floor has a
white marble fireplace to the main room and a late C19 grate.
The doors are 4-panel in Georgian-style architraves.
