14/72 White Oak Farmhouse
GV II
House. Possibly C19 incorporating mid-late C17 masonry. Ashlar gritstone,
blue slate roof. 2 storeys, 2 bays. Central C20 part-glazed door with
overlight under lintel cut to a shallow Tudor arch with coil decoration to
spandrels. Recessed-chamfered mullioned wimdows throughout; 5-lights to
ground floor, 3 stepped lights to upper floor, all with hoodmoulds. Gable
copings, shaped kneelers with cushions for ball finials, banded end stacks.
Left return: board door to right in quoined, 4-centred arched surround. A
water-colour in the possession of the occupier, untitled, shows a C17 house
with 3 gables - one very similar to the porch at Throstle Nest (qv), the
window forms are similar to the present house, suggesting an extensive
rebuilding.
