Shop and dwelling, now shop and offices. Probably early C19;
altered. Red brick, now all rendered, with sandstone dressings
and slate roof. Double-depth plan incorporating tunnel entry
to Bolton's Court. Four storeys and 3 windows, with former
frieze and cornice to ground floor altered and concealed,
plain frieze and moulded gutter cornice. Ground floor has
rectangular entry to left, modern shops to right; 1st and 2nd
floors have tall sashed windows without glazing bars, with
raised sills and wedge lintels, 3rd floor has square 6-pane
sashes with raised sills. Tall gable chimney to right. Rear
altered, and modern rear wing not of special interest.
INTERIOR altered. History: the Tory weekly newspaper "The
Preston Pilot" was printed and published here by Lawrence
Clarke, bookseller and printer, from 1825. Forms group with
the Bull and Royal Hotel, to which it is attached.
