storeyed bay end wall has mullioned window and shutter groove
on first floor and shutter groove of window below. Present
floor joists are post-medieval replacements but original
joists were flat sectioned with housed soffit shoulders.
Partition between high end and hall has stout studding below
and above tie-beam with Roman numeral carpenters' marks and
also peg holes in line, possibly for a warping frame, also a
tension brace and original ground floor doorway. Central bay
and NW bay have inserted ceiling joists of c1560, principal
binding joist supported by timber sling, principal and common
joists with step stop chamfers, jointed by diminished haunched
soffit tenons. Stack inserted c1600 through floor in lateral
position. Joists replaced round stack. Central tie-beam over
inserted floors cut and doorway framed on first floor. Early
C19 additional slender studding added above wall plates to
raise eaves to level of added C19 block to rear, also areas of

sequence. Canterbury Tye Farmhouse and barn (qv) form a group.
