Shops with offices. Early C17 with early C19 rebuilding of
frontage. Timber-framed and plastered, stuccoed brick, slate
and clay tiled roof, red brick stacks. Plan of curved T. 2
storeys. Front E elevation: long cranked frontage, 6 bays, S
end terminates in quadrant to Library in Market Place (qv),
eaves have paired modillions, stucco cornice with paired
consoles between storeys with lower pilasters. Ground floor, 2
C19 shop fronts, now refurbished in C20 with plate glass. No.1
doorway retains overlight. First floor, N-S, 2 C19 plain sash
windows, 4 sash windows with glazing bars, 3x4 panes. Stack at
N end and behind ridge towards S. Rear W elevation:
timber-framed and plastered, cross gabled wing to W with
single storey timber-framed and red brick, slated ground floor
W extension. C20 single storeyed red brick rear slated shop
extension in angle of C17 wing and street range. Also, N end
2-storey brick lean-to. C17 wing, S gable C19 shaped
barge-boards and first floor sash window with moulded
architrave,glazing bars, 4x4 panes. Window in similar position
on N and W gables, sash, 3x4 panes and sliding sash 4x3 panes
respectively. Fan pargetting on N side of C17 wing and W
addition. Addition also has 2-leaf carriageway door and
adjacent window of 2 lights. Passageway now cut through
junction of units with 3 adjacent ground floor C20 single
light casement windows in C17 unit. N end lean-to. N side,
first floor C19 round headed fixed window with stained and
ground glass margin glazing, below, 5 panel C19 door, upper
panels glazed. W side, first floor 2-light sliding sash window
4x3 panes.
INTERIOR: ground floor of No.3A, early C19 triple sash bay
window set below rear gable with shaped barge-boards, all
originally exterior.
