Community hall, formerly school assembly hall. c1880. Fine
squared and coursed dressed stone, slate roof. A simple
one-storey 5-bay rectangular structure, gable to street, with
low wing, left, carried through flush with gable. Very simple
lancet detailing; 3 stepped lancets to moulded cill and square
blockings, under relieving arch to gable with coped verges and
saddle-stone. To right, facing the main building, 3 pairs of
lancets in flush chamfered surrounds, and to left, behind
wing, 2 pairs the same. Wing has double chamfered
segmental-pointed arch to plank doors, and in gabled return a
single lancet. Rear gable triple lancet similar to front. C20
flat-roofed extension attached to wing. Large stepped stone
stack at eaves, left side of hall. Interior has arched-braced
trusses over unrendered rubble walls (from above cill level),
and deep embrasures to lancets. Good Gothick stone hood
fireplace to left.An important element in the overall
composition of the Centre.
