Town Hall, 1900, by Briggs and Wolstenholme (Pevsner). Ashlar, hipped slate roof with two ridge chimneys (and two chimneys and rear). Rectangular plan, five x four bays. Two and a half storeys in free Baroque style; symmetrical, with slightly projecting gabled wings and three-bay centre. Plinth, string course, first floor sill band, moulded cornice which carries across face of gables. Central doorway has Gibbs surround and segmental pediment rising from the string course; flanking the door are pairs of sashed windows with coupled Gibbs surrounds, and in the wings are stilted lunettes with tripartite sashed windows. First floor has coupled windows in the centre, triple windows in the wings, all with Gibbs surrounds and cornices. Each wing has corbelled polygonal corners to first floor, continued above the cornice as turrets with ball finials flanking the finialled gable, which contains a bullseye with archivolt. Right return wall in similar style. Left end linked at first floor to adjoining bank (q.v.) by a matching arch with a finial.
