The White Lion Inn

GV II

Public house. Late C17/early C18 with early C19 wing and some
later alterations. Coursed squared limestone; coursed
limestone rubble wing; concrete tile roof with rebuilt brick
left- and right-end stacks and 2 rear axial stacks. 2 storeys
and attic; 4-window range; 2-storey 1-window wing to right.
First floor has four 2-light stone mullion and transom windows
with small chamfers in moulded stone surrounds with stone
cills; 3 similar windows to ground floor, to right with early
C18 6/6-pane sash. Moulded stone doorcase to centre right with
heavy keystone, pulvinated frieze and moulded cornice;
part-glazed 6-panel door. Two gabled dormers with C20 glazing;
one C20 rooflight. Shallow plinth, moulded strings over first
and second floors. Extension to right has one 6/6-pane sash to
first floor; one C19 2/2-pane sash to ground floor and pair of
plank doors giving access to rear. INTERIOR has late C17/early
C18 scissored string stair with turned balusters from ground
to first floor; upper floors not inspected. Moulded beam in
front bar has ogee stops; ground floor opened out and much
altered. Late C19 2-storey brick extension to rear.
