Large house. Early C19 with C20 refurbishment and slight
addition. Gault brick and stucco, red brick, slate roof. Plan
L shape of double pile with long rear E wing. 2 storeys.
Front S elevation: long 3-bay range, ashlar-lined stuccoed
ground floor plinth and upper string course, gault brick first
floor with dividing brick pilasters, gault brick stack E of
centre, second red brick stack behind ridge towards W end.
Central round arched doorway approached by steps, overlight
with decorative glazing bars, 2-leafed door of 6 panels, 3
ground floor windows, 2 E of doorway, moulded architraves with
keystones, sashes with side margin glazing. First floor, 3
similar 3x4 paned sash windows with stone lintels. Rear N
elevation: red brick, E wing has continuous ground floor
slated lean-to. Short C20 addition on W side with roof as
lean-to to W garden wall. Principal block, 3 round-headed
first floor windows, 2 large and one smaller to E. Sashes,
with radial glazing, old crown glass, 3x4 panes, plus radial
ones, E window lower sash has no glazing bars. Ground floor,
C20 French window plus side lights, 6x6 panes in all. Adjacent
tall fixed C20 window on site of earlier window 3x6 panes.
Large red brick stack seen in valley between twin house
blocks. E wing, first floor, 2 C19 segment-headed sash
windows, 4x4, one similar blocked, one C19 sliding sash window
6x3 panes, central red brick stack, lean-to has 2 single-light
C20 casements 2x3 panes. N end has C20 section with corrugated
plastic roof. C20 W side addition has 4-panelled door and 4x3
paned 2-light casement window, C20 3-light 6x3 paned window on
E return.
INTERIOR: stairs have shaped mahogany handrail and stick
balusters. First floor rear room has C19 marble chimney piece,
pulvinated architrave with corner paterae. Window shutters
remain, also shutters to ground floor rooms to street with
rear locking bars. 2 cellars, one below rear of principal
range, other below E wing, double tunnel vaulted.
