House and offices. 1833. Probably designed by William Morley
Stears, gas engineer from Leeds, who designed and executed gas
works of which this building only remains. Limestone ashlar,
coursed squared limestone to sides and rear; Welsh slate
parapeted roof; stone stack to centre front with pair of tall
hexagonal clay pots, ashlar stack to right side. Building has
curved front at angle to street, projecting wing to rear.
2-storey 3-window range. First floor has three 3/6-pane sashes
in plain reveals with stone cills; ground floor has two
6/6-pane sashes in similar reveals. C20 glazed door to centre
with overlight with marginal glazing in plain reveal. Deep
tooled ashlar plinth; plat band over ground floor; frieze and
heavy projecting unmoulded band at eaves with blocking course
over. Right side has two 3/6-pane sashes to first floor; two
6/6-pane sashes to ground floor. INTERIOR not inspected.
