Remodelled by Ernest Newton in 1889 on an existing Early victorian house,
for the Sanderson family. Furnishings by Morris and Company.
2 storeys red brick with tiled roof. Elaborate moulded eaves cornice with
ovulo moulding. The front elevation has 3 bays. 1 canted bay with 3 double
casements, 1 rectangular bay with 4 mullions and transoms on the side and 6
on the front and a centre pentagonal bay with mullions and transoms. Stone
window dressings. Left side is stuccoed with 3 round-headed windows on the
1st floor and a small ground floor bay. Pair of brick and stone gate piers
with ball finials. Terraces with cement balustrades and herringbone patterned
red brick steps.
Grade II* mainly for the interior. The library still preserves intact the
painted ceiling by Morris and Company and there is a sample of the original
frieze. Elaborate Arts and Crafts fireplaces. On the ground floor there
is a fine plastered ceiling with flower motif. Original brass chandelier
in hall.
