2/7 The Old Farmhouse and
Roseberry Cottage at
Mole's Farm

Farmhouse, now 2 houses. C17 ('1637' and carpenter's mark on a
board found in alterations). Narrower W half (Roseberry Cottage)
is probably a near contemporary extension to the unusually wide E
part, which may itself have had a non-domestic origin or be a
fragment of a much larger building. Plastered with an old red
tile roof. Projecting plinth and floorband. Probably
timberframed partly replaced in red brick beneath the plaster.
Small gabled tiled porch on N serving W half. E half, 2-storeys
and attics and 2-windows wide with slightly recessed boxed sash
windows with 8/8 panes. 2 flat-topped dormers on N slope. Small
casement windows on N elevation of W half but larger on E face.
Very large projecting E gable chimney with large open fireplace on
ground floor. Interior of E part nearly 8 metres wide and
heavy chamfered stopped, ceiling beams on both floors divide it
into 2 bays, each with 2 similar longitudinal beams, as if the
original accommodation was a single large room on each floor,
each with a large end fireplace. A-frame pegged oak roof trusses
of wide span.
