House. Mid C18 refronting of late C17 house. Coursed limestone rubble; roughcast
front with rusticated quoin strips and architraves. Gabled stone slate roof with
concrete tiles to rear; brick stack to right. Double-depth plan. 2 storeys and
attic; 4-window range. Keyed flat arch and scrolled wrought-iron brackets
support flat hood over late C19 six-panelled (2 glazed) door to centre. Early
C19 bow window to left has early C19 sashes and moulded cornice. 6-pane sashes,
with thick glazing bars on first floor, set in keyed and rusticated architraves;
raised storey band; hipped dormers with 2-light casements. Gabled 2-storey C18
wings to rear: two mid C18 sashes with thick glazing bars to right; similar sash
and late C18 sash to wing on left, extended by addition of C18 one-storey
outbuilding, a former bakehouse. Interior: mid C18 and C19 panelled doors;
chamfered beams; winder stairs to right of central through passage. Mid C18
remodelling can be credited to Grantham family, who held house from 1750s to
1780s and were prominent in Woodstock's Luxury steel jewelry trade.
