On island site. Market Hall, now shops. Late C15, much
restored C20. North front: timber-frame and plaster; C20
plain-tile roof.
2-storeys and cellar; 3-window range: C20 leaded lights with
casements, set in studwork. To left late C19 shopfront with
central half-glazed entrance flanked by canted windows. To
right, doorway now window, in moulded case, and C20 shop
window, with entrance in single storey wing to right, with
late C19 shopfront.
West front: rubble to ground floor with box framing over; C20
leaded lights and door. Single storey extension has late C19
shop window with casement over, under cambered head.
East front: narrow pentice under part-restored moulded
bressummer; sandstone plinth with 2 cellar openings. South
front: restored post and pan to 1st floor, with two C20 leaded
light casements. Ground floor stuccoed to right with C20
casement; rubble to left with C20 glazed door and light. C19
iron railings with gate to cellar entrance; urn-finials to
posts.
INTERIOR: retains main frame posts with chamfered arch braces,
and main ceiling frame with diagonal beams. Early C19 stair,
with traces of earlier steps. Chamfered ceiling beams to 1st
floor; 2 large spine beams; chamfered main frame posts
throughout 1st floor. 4 trusses with chamfered tie beams, and
queen struts.
