Cottage. Early C19. Clad in strips of bark; brick stack and
thatch roof. Single-depth plan. Cottage ornee style. Single
storey and attic; 1-window range. Openings formed with curved
timbers: pointed-arched doorway in right-hand porch, windows
with pointed arches, leaded ground-floor casements and lattice
attic windows. INTERIOR not inspected.
Though not mentioned in Repton's Red Book of the Blaise Castle
House landscape scheme, and therefore possibly contemporary
with the 1766 castle (qv), it is much more in character with
the Nash/Repton improvements of 1798. A finely detailed and
uncommon design, exemplifying the rustic simplicity of
construction advanced by contemporaries such as Rousseau.
