GV II*

House, now office. 1789. By William Paty. Limestone ashlar,
coursed Pennant rubble, brick gable stacks and pantile mansard
roof. Double-depth plan. Mid Georgian style.
3 storeys, attic and basement; 3-window range. A symmetrical
front has rusticated pilaster strips to a modillion cornice
and balustrade. Rusticated ground floor to a plat band, and
first-floor sill band. Central doorway has a Gibbs surround
and flat canopy, and 6-panel door. Ground-floor windows have
rusticated voussoirs to plate-glass sashes, 6/6-pane
first-floor and 3/3-pane second-floor sashes; 3 dormers.
Left-hand return has a first-floor semicircular-arched stair
light. Rear is rendered with a right-hand full-height canted
bay.
INTERIOR: a central stair hall with a left-hand open-well
stair with wide curtail, wreathed, ramped rail, column
balusters, and a wainscot; niche to the left of the door with
key and imposts; stair light has panelled reveals and rocaille
soffit; cornices with festoon; basement fireplace with good
tiles; 6-panel doors and panelled shutters.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: attached cast-iron front area railings
and gates curved up to the door; attached rear rubble garden
wall.
