Parade of shops and an hotel. c1870s. Limestone ashlar and
brick, brick ridge stacks and pantile roof. Double-depth plan.
Each of 3 storeys; 2-window range. A symmetrical composition
with gables at the ends and paired in the centre, which step
forward; the gabled houses have paired, banded columns to
either side of the ground floor and one in the middle, with
foliate capitals, and single columns frame the ground floors
of the houses between; over the fascia is a dentil cornice,
some with cast-iron railings; the windows have banded columns
below stilted heads with dog teeth, bracketed cills, and
plate-glass sashes; the gables have attics with paired
windows, and scalloped barge-boards. INTERIOR: dogleg stair
with stick balusters. In front is a raised Pennant-flagged
pavement. An imposing and well-detailed terrace front.
