Cinema, now chapel. 1914, closed 1955. Brick with limestone
dressings, roof not visible. Open plan. Edwardian Baroque
style. 2 storeys and attic; 3-window range. A symmetrical
front with steps up to a recessed centre bay, with modillion
cornice and parapet, and raised central segmental pediment.
Mid C20 entrance and canopy; above is a large lunette with
architrave, blocked voussoirs and stepped key, and an attic
oculus with bayleaf surround and crossed branches beneath.
outer windows set in an ashlar panel: ground-floor has
architraves and a cornice, and first-floor oculus with eared
round architrave and volute key, and crossed branches and
fruit beneath. Casements with glazing bars. INTERIOR not
inspected. HISTORICAL NOTE: formerly the Academy Cinema, and
one of a diminishing number of early Bristol cinemas, with its
facade largely intact.
