GV II
Two houses, formerly part of same building. Early-mid C15,
sub-divided late C18/early C19 and altered C20. Coursed
limestone rubble, probably with timber-framed 1st floor,
rendered to front, with plain-tile roofs and brick ridge
stacks. 3 units. 2-storey, 5-window range. No.21 (Priory
House) has 6-panel door with panelled reveals, and moulded
wood surround, flanked by 12-pane windows and 3-light casement
windows to 1st floor left and right, either side of 3-light
leaded original window with square wood mullions. No.22 has
6-panel door to far left with straight hood on shaped
brackets, 12-pane sash window to ground floor right and
2-light sliding sash windows to 1st floor. 2-storey wings to
rear, largely C20.
INTERIOR: both houses have chamfered cross beam ceilings to
ground floor. 1st floors are timber-framed and were formerly
open to roof. No.21 has small stone fireplace to 1st floor
room with stop-chamfered, cambered bressumer. 3-bay roof has
tie beams to principals with short arch-braces to ties, large
collars, a possible second tier of collars and 2 tiers of
trenched purlins, the lower tier wind-braced.
No.22 has small stone cellar with spine beam and reused
joists, some roll-moulded and hollow-chamfered with scoop
stops. Similar 2-bay roof. Original stud partition between
No.22 and the adjacent house No.23 (qv). Both houses were
built as one, which also included part or all of No.23 (qv).
