Row of cottages, No 5 with a shop; all but No 5 are now partly
below ground level with a narrow railed area in front.
Probably late C18 or early C19. Solid rendered fronts. Slate
roofs, that of No 5 hipped towards the street. 4
irregularly-placed chimneys; 2 of old red brick on Nos 5-6, a
rendered one on No 7, and a C20 red-brick one on the
party-wall between Nos 8-9.
2 storeys. No 5 of 2-window range; Nos 6-9 of 1-window range.
No 5 has 6-panelled centre door, the 2 bottom panels flush.
Cart-entrance with shaped surround to left. Original
small-paned bow window to right; entablature with modillioned
cornice. 2 upper-storey windows with shaped surrounds;
mid/late C20 wood frames. The other 4 cottages have C20 doors.
Plain ground-floor sash-windows to Nos 6-7. In upper storey No
6 has 2-light wood casement with 2 panes per light; No 7 has
6-paned sashes; No 8 has 2-light, 6-paned Yorkshire sashes; No
9 has 2-paned sashes with horns.
INTERIOR not inspected. Subsidiary Features: area-railing
consists of 12 iron hoops carrying 2 sets of horizontal bars,
the upper bars braced from behind where they run throught the
hoops. Opposite Nos 8-9 a plainer railing along a flight of
steps down to the area.
