II
Farmhouse, c1850 by Henry Weaver for Poynder estate, ashlar fronted
rubble stone with stone slate eaves roof and paired ashlar end
stacks. Two storeys, three-window range, Tudor/Jacobean style with
stone-mullion windows and hoodmoulds, picturesque small Jacobean
shaped gable over centre window and barge-boarded gables over outer
windows. Three first floor 2-light windows, centre with blank
shield over and carved head stops to gable coping. Ground floor
has projecting embattled square bays each side with angle
buttresses and 3-light windows, and similar but further projecting
centre embattled porch with four-centre arched door, hoodmould and
parapet stepped above. Four-centre arched door with original
ironwork within. A single storey north addition with end stack has
projected gabled centre with barge boards and large 1:3:1-light
mullion-and-transom canted bay. Roundel over. Two parallel rear
wings, red brick with stone dressings, south front with two window
range of mullion windows and lean-to porch in angle with Tudor door
within. Main house has picturesque timber bellcote behind ridge.
Henry Weaver was agent to the Poynder estate and designed this
house for his own use.
