Built 1445-59. Picturesque building with brick and stone ground floor and above of timber-framing with close-set studding. Two storeys with right-hand three-storey oversailing coved gable end with carved bargeboards. Some modern and some C18 fenestration. Six windows, C18 sashes with glazing bars some restored, and casements with leaded panes. Doorway on right. On left first floor oversails with carriageway through to Castle Yard with heavily moulded jambs and lintel braced at angles with continuous moulding forming elliptical arch. The wing at rear facing Castle Yard is brick faced and there is a small C18 red brick addition.
All the listed buildings in Castle Street, Castle View and Castle Yard together with Skeffington House, the Iron Gates, Chantry House and Newarke Wall all in The Newarke form a group.
