Summer house and water tower. C18. Magnesian limestone ashlar. Gothic style
Octagonal in plan and apparently of 2 storeys, with buttresses at the angles,
2-centred arched doorways in the east and west sides, 2-centred arched sashed
windows in the sides flanking these (but not in the north and south sides), all
these openings with glazing bars intersecting in the head, and with diamond
junctions to the glazing bars; at the upper level circular windows with radial
glazing bars, in spherical triangles, a string course above, prominent moulded
cornice and ogee-shaped "battlements" pierced with trefoils. Interior: Gothic
panels formed by slender shafts; with foliated decoration; in the north and south
sides, tall arched mirrors in place of windows with glazing bars like the windows.
Cistern in roof served the house as water tower before advent of mains system.
