Church Enstone
14/54 Lynton Cottage and The Old
Court House

GV II

House, now 2 dwellings. Early/mid C17, altered and extended C18 and C20. Coursed
limestone rubble with wooden lintels; concrete plain-tile roof with brick
stacks. 3-unit through-passage plan with added rear wing and garage bay. 2
storeys plus attic. 3-window front of earlier main range has large renewed
3-light casements at ground floor and similar but smaller windows above, except
the first-floor window of Lynton Cottage, to left, which has an old 3-light
casement with early leaded glazing below a heavily-moulded lintel; other lintels
are concealed by render except the chamfered ground-floor lintel of Lynton
Cottage. Entrances are set between the bays, that to left with a small C20
porch. Steep-pitched roof has 3 stacks and continues over the C20 garage bay of
Lynton Cottage. Short rear wing of Lynton Cottage is probably C18. Interior:
heavy stop-chamfered cross beams, some adjoining cross walls. The Courts Leet
are said to have been held in The Old Court House.
