Skittle alley. Late C19, built for Alfred de Rothschild of Halton House for entertaining guests at The
Chalet (qv). Cast-iron frame with scroll enriched trusses, each having the Rothschild monogram.
Glazed roof with cast-iron eaves brackets designed to appear as tree branches; similar crossed twigs form
squares along the top of the eaves. Single storey. 6 bays. Brick gable end walls. Sides glazed with
continuous timber plank apron. A log 8 wheel device has survived for opening the roof Guests were
brought from Halton House (qv) in a pony carriage to admire the wide view and be entertained for
the day; a pack of spaniels was kept in adjoining kennels (qv).
